tap, obviously needs replacement, but the surface is cracked at 6 o'clock, how can that be fixed ?
the other grey lines above the tap are 'just' dirt

the locker floor has become detached at some stage ? and 'fixed' to the hull again
not done very well in my opinion, the floor on the other side of the partition apears sturdy too, the hull still has the origional coating on the inside

the water pump has sprayed salt water onto this alternator ?

whats this, and how to clean off the corrosion ?

this toilet worth reconditioning ?

odd there is no water in the bilges, its all surface ??

Looks like a walk-away boat to me?

The lack of care is probably reflected throughout the boat. The bilges could have been mopped up pre your visit.

i have posted the problem items, at the moment i am of the view that it is a project and a day boat, which would suit me.
new heater / GPS plotter / canopy / rear cushions. OD looks promising even though its 20 yrs old, recon the boat has been stacked.

bilges are dusty, they dont look recently dried, in fact it does not look as if anyone has looked after the mobo for some time, other than the engine. being heated overnight.
that has had the exhaust manifold replaced recently, new bellows on the OD.
batteries and charger functioning, wallis powered up.

What boat is it?

I hate to agree with the other post, but it does look neglected. You say it's a project, but what else will you find over time? I can get over the cosmetics of the hull, but not happy looking at that engine.

How old is the boat? Engines, sterngear, nav-gear/autopilot, gennie, batteries and seacocks ... these are expensive to fix, so if the owner has skimped on the very easy DIY stuff, I would be careful. Can he produce invoices for maintenance work/replacement for the above items? Sorry if this sounds rude, but are you looking for a usable boat for the 2017 season or for a refurb project? Just my 2p worth. Good luck.

The problems you show in your pictures are relatively easy to fix for an accomplished diy person. If you are not then it's always expensive getting someone else to solve your problems! There is probably a small leak around the raw water pump but may not be drastic. As the other guys say if the boat has not been looked after then it should reflect in the price? Lots of ammunition to reduce the asking price substantially?

Was there a battleship left lying in the loo too ? Whatever that fluid is around the loo pump I'm not to sure I would want to be the one having to mop it up.

What is about boat owners who think it is OK to present their boat for sale looking like a corporation bus depot ?

Not severely degraded, but suggests much of the crap you are seeing has occurred on this owner's watch. However, it could be superficial so use it against him and if you are interested then offer him well below the nuts, as I doubt he will have a queue at the broker's door.

If you are concerned about what you see then buy a new boat, these things are not really as bad as they look for a used boat, a toilet is an easy fix, a new tap is an easy fix, the corrosion on the engine is likely to be where the weed strainer has been checked and sea water spelled over alternator or the speed seal leaking, I hate them things I just wish people would leave alone with the face plate they are meant to have, locker is easily fixed, negotiate a reduced price to cover these minor repairs or buy a new one or one in immaculate condition for a lot more.

Total crap owner doesnt deserve a viewing on this boat as he couldnt be arsed to clean up the boat

If i was a broker i wouldnt take even list it till the owner had cleaned it

With all the comments against brokers on here from people who all think they can be the perfect broker I'm surprised that these people haven't set up business as a broker, then once reality hits you may realise what's involved.
Im not a broker and don't intend on being one either but having dealt with a few over the years I get a good picture of what they are up against.

I also think brokers tend generally to do a good job but like estate agents the level of commitment and pro activity varies. If faced with the disposal of the vessel outlined in the OP pictures I can see how the broker might be underwhelmed by rhe sellers commitment however we don't know circumstances of sale and location of vessel to seller so the broker might be taking on knowing the seller is infirm etc. This might be a desperate seller where a large reduction on a speculative basis yields results and maybe the broker is targeting such a section of buyers for its marketing i.e. Those who want a distressed case . Good brokers should also be informed on vessel and as they have access to broker databases so on balance good brokers have advantages however I think some would benefit from from CPD and do at times seem rather casual as to timings etc.

Err that depends on the price being asked!!

Totally agree!
I recently brought a second hand boat and it was clear from the start the previous owner had just given up.
The boat needed a very very good clean and the engine a full service,
The offer I put in reflected the condition of the boat. Speaking to the broker, it was clear he had offered to clean the boat himself to aid the sale (for a price) but the owner wasn't interested. I guess he'd just had enough of spending???
If the condition puts you of there's always another boat round the corner, or you could always buy new, but there's no guarantee that will be plain sailing.
Best of luck in your search, oh and if anyone knows how best to clean up the surround on those switches I would like to know as mine our the same :)

Looks like an average boat surface corrosion and condensation is what's to be expected after a boat has unused . Any of the grp fractures can be redone it's all simple stuff
The pump will need servicing but so what
Any one would think we live in a perfect world with perfect lives and expect old second hand boats to be as new !
But then as every one on here has so much money they buy a new car the first time it needs a clean

The switches look like chrome plated brass, the green accumulations are verdigris. Whereas they could be cleaned with a dremel and brass wire brush, and a lot of patience, if these are getting damp they will be difficult to keep clean. A blow over with clear lacquer or possible ignition sealer might help keep them clean.

Thanks superheat6k
It's mainly noticeable on the cupboard locker catches tbh (the push in type) might just be easier to replace
anyway, slight thread drift

Looks to me like a typical neglected boat commonly found in boatyards everywhere.
Have seen that sort of hull fracture inside hull of a newish Fairline Targa 37, so not a sale killer.
All down to price.
If you have the cash to buy a immaculate example fine, buy one,but if funds are limited,or you want to buy a fixer upper and fund as you go, consider the worst the boat can do to your pocket regards major items (engine/outdrives) and bid accordingly.

tnx, yep "improving things" is not always a good idea :(

the boat is 20 yrs old, hull and various lids / openings are good (except for one locker floor)
i had never seen a locker floor like that b4. just panicked a bit yesterday, but there is no sign of the surrounding area being loose or cracked. the yard it may be going into can fix that for me. not keen on GRP work myself.

but have done other renovation jobs, and compared to a more recent boat / new boat it may be worth a low offer.

i'll find out what a new alternator for a kad43 costs.

tnx for your input.
