Are you referring to the internal rusting of part of the exhaust system, which caused several fatalities, as described in the latest edition of the Boat US magazine? If so, I had a similar experience (no fatality) with a Quicksilver/Generac generator on my Sea Ray. A part of the exhaust is made from iron, which is exposed to exhaust gases and salt water. I recently found that mine had rusted from the inside and was falling apart. $600 later and I've fixed it. Sea Ray said they would report it to their quality dept. Another good reason not to run a gas/petrol genset at night with the possibility of CO in the engine compartment and possibly elswhere!!!
Thanks for the reply, but no. My problem is a little more expensive than $600. My Wellcraft installed Kohler gen-set self destructed because of water ingestion. Kohler techs tell me the water ingestion was caused by a faulty installation of the exhaust system by Wellcraft. They also tell me there are 17 other Wellcraft owners with the same problem. I'm searching the internet for those other owners.
Alan - you might want to contact Boat US, too, as they get to know a lot about manufacturing defects etc.
This forum is mostly UK-related. Have you asked the question on any US magazine forums?
