Hi, I posted a bit about putting up 2-man tent over the cockpit a while ago, and have finally got around to digging out all the pictures and putting them on BoatsontheWeb, here goes for my first attempt at posting a picture

It works! Also a good shot of my "blue peter" mast support.

In case you are wondering, the tent pegs are omitted and the guys are tied together under the boat with rope. The tent cost £25 and is now embarking on its 3rd winter, after a few running repairs. It is extremely effective and quite convenient, unless you want to get into a cockpit locker.

In Denmark and Germany this would be called a "cakebox" I believe. They modify the tent slightly by having battens across the ridge and thus increasing the room.
I tried to get English cover makers to knock me one up, but all they wanted to do was sell me one of these allover cockpit covers with stainless steel hoops! However I persuaded my local sailmaker-Suggitt Sails- to make one to my specification. I support the ridge with a boathook which is lashed to the backstay and the boom. The sides are fastened to lacing eyes. It has given us another cabin on wet days-worth every pound spent. When folded it goes into a small bag and is easily stowed, which an all over cover won't do. Can't post a photo until next season regretably.

That sounds interesting, anything that makes the boat drier on wet days at anchor would be useful. I look forward to seeing the pictures next year.

Very nice, but I'll bet it cost more than 25 quid! I also have an ancient traditional pattern cockpit tent that came wiht the boat, i.e. one with no visible means of entry once its up. The doors are a major technical advance.

Yours looks very effective too, I think the one on Rusalka cost over £500.
