An excellent article by Vyv on anchor chain, page 64, and an even better letter on page 12 correcting the "expert's" statements in PBO No. 717 about DZR brass.
Thank you very much. The latest edition has yet to arrive on Readly so I did not know those articles had been published. An excellent article by Vyv on anchor chain, page 64, and an even better letter on page 12 correcting the "expert's" statements in PBO No. 717 about DZR brass.

Their copyright does not allow me to reproduce anything in the magazine.Any chance of those who dont get PBO to have a link
I had a somewhat similar exchange with the editor and Sutcliffe Evans about the same misleading information on seacocks in 2 earlier articles. The level of ignorance is astonishing never mind the unwillingness to recognise it.The response to your letter from the "expert" will make you laugh (or cry)
Returning to sailing now I am retired I will visit the library and read the article. An excellent article by Vyv on anchor chain, page 64, and an even better letter on page 12 correcting the "expert's" statements in PBO No. 717 about DZR brass.
In terms of copyright law, it is reasonable to reproduce anything for ‘education or review’.Their copyright does not allow me to reproduce anything in the magazine.
I think you may be mis-stating the fair use clauses! Copying an article in a paid magazine and then republishing it on the internet on the basis that it is educational is probably not going to fly.In terms of copyright law, it is reasonable to reproduce anything for ‘education or review’.
I expect you may get banned for doing that! Roger could just buy the magazine, like others do - he now knows there is at least something of interest in there. Afterall the magazine publisher keeps this site running!I’ll grab a screenshot from readly when it appears.
There is a limit as to how much can be reproduced under "fair use" - usually taken to be 10%; that's the rule enforced by academic libraries. In terms of copyright law, it is reasonable to reproduce anything for ‘education or review’.

You won't like his response. Probably worth waiting for it as it might influence what you put in your next article.I read it, along with many other magazines, on Readly. Unfortunately there seems to be a delay between publication of the paper version and the digital. Still waiting to see the response to my letter from the originator of the nonsense.

Types of metals used in seacocks. Is it permitted to ask what the substantive issue is?
