Weird happenings at Mercury Marina

it's a possibility of course but what makes me sure in this case is (as I do since having them replaced) I give the canopies a good drenching with the hose pipe before leaving to remove any salt spray, I would have noticed the canopy was open whilst doing so

Of course, could be something far more sinister… Steve looking for chocolate? !

Hi G........NOT GUILTY !!!!!!!................"HOWEVER".......when I arrived at mine last weekend , I had virtually the identical scenario !!!!..the side canopy was half unzipped and the bottom poppers were undone, also the sheet that covers the dash had been "disturbed"!!!....as in your case NOTHING had been "removed"....arriving at 1am I wasn't sure but now I KNOW the canopy was secured....didn't report it (yes I should of done)...no chocolate had "appeared" on board...unnerving to say the least ........

That confirms it for sure then Steve. Not good, sounds like someone boarding boats to check if the cabin door is locked if they've approached the helm or worse still, trying to start boats i.e. why did they turn my batteries on that time?

Was yours undone on the pontoon side or the side facing the water?

Have you spoken to the guys in the office? With 2 boats possibly having been boarded by unknowns.... it really is a concern.

Could you do me a big favour, check Seabird's covers zipped up securely! I would appreciate it as we are not down this weekend...

Cheers,

James

Have informed the office who have taken it seriously and will up the monitoring of this pontoon and inform plod

Hi Gary,

Not been on here for a few days as been madness at work. Thanks for the heads up and thanks for checking the boat over. I had strange things like that happening at Port Solent, one of the reasons we left was because staff couldn't give a toss when me and the neighbour went up to the office with identical issues..... They just laughed and said it must be a ghost. :(

What did the office at Mercury say??

they're going to keep and extra eye on E pontoon, the filed in a report to make sure it's logged and they'll discuss with plod / kraken reps as they're in the office most days.

Which pontoon was that Paul & how long ago? I can't believe that that was their reaction, amazing:eek:

It may be a case of teenagers letting themselves in having found a safe place for some horizontal refreshment, as was happening on a friend's boat.

I wonder if it's possible that with theives becoming more brazen we are in danger of not keeping up. A few years ago equipment and outboards would be your biggest concern, but nowadays I'm hearing more boats are being taken, posibly (and making no judgement) that more boats are starting to look the same where as before with less boats around they were much more difficult to hide. It still seems odd to me that my and others pride in joy are secured with a bit of rope and a zip.

We have a GPS tracker hidden away on Bizzy Bee and an alarm not disimilar to a car alarm, in fact, it's an adapted car alarm. I'll be texted if the boat moves or someone successfully gains entry to the cabin. It's simple to install these measure at reasonable cost so I'm with you on this Col, I doon't understand why folk don't do the same

Be interested to know a bit more about your alarm etc Gary

A couple of years ago we thought someone was using our hot tub at our holiday home and eldest (who is niw a Master of Electronic Engineering) adapted an old webcam and mounted it above tne decking but didnt connext it to anything but he put a grain of wheat flashing led in the body of the camera so anyone looking at it thought it was live.

Dows you marina not have cctv covering the basin ? At ours they seem to have them everywhere and coupled to that we did hear the night watchman on his rounds at least twice a night. I thoughtsuch security would be facrored into your berthing costs ?
