Weird charging problem. Or maybe not?

Yes indeed. You are quite right. My engine is lovely, very lovely. On the other hand, it is modest in power. That's said, it gets me everywhere I want to go. I adore it.

I was skeptical of the 2GM in my 38ft'r .... based on my 25ft'r having a Perkins 4-107 ... basically more than double the HP ... but so far - the 2GM has been good as gold.

Update.

The battery tested well, showing 12.7 volts when isolated.
With the engine ticking over I got 13.5 volts across the battery. The charge light glowed dimly
With the engine revved up to 2300 or thereabouts, I got 14.3 volts across the battery. And the charge light shone brightly!

So the alternator IS charging. I must have some sort of weird short circuit behind the panel, or somewhere. This is, I think, positive news.
