Hello again,

Here is the latest weekend forecast. Interesting to see a northwest flow with so much moisture in it. I don't think it will be a washout weekend, just some showers, although these heavy in the north and west. If only we could build the high in (which I think will happen next week), conditions would settle down, and be warmer!

WEEKEND SAILING FORECAST
Issued: 1030 Thursday 5th May 2005

FRIDAY
Quite a moist WNW flow covering the UK and Ireland today. The high pressure west of Ireland is trying to build in, but a front is going to get trapped in the flow and will extend through central Ireland to southwest England at midday. This is going to cause problems with this forecast!
I think that there will be plenty of cloud associated with the front through Ireland, Wales and southwest England, perhaps producing some spots of drizzle. This may spread northwards through the day, possibly becoming more persistent for a time across Northern Ireland.
More eastern counties of England, and the north at first, should be drier and brighter although still a fair amount of cloud.
For Scotland there will be showers and some of these could be heavy to the north, although the south should be drier and brighter.
Winds generally W-WNW 12-128kt (F4-F5) perhaps 25kt (F6) in northern Scotland.

SATURDAY
A brisk northwest flow through the UK and Ireland today. Low pressure over the west of Norway is battling it out with the high west of Ireland. An occluded front will be close to northern Scotland, whilst a cold front clears southern coasts of England.
Rather cloudy for northern and central Scotland, close to that front. There will be periods of rain here. To the south it will be drier, although windy.
Much of the rest of the country will be bright with sunny spells, but also some showers. A few of the showers could be heavy in western areas. Elsewhere only scattered showers are expected. There will always be a fair amount of cloud, typically 6/8ths.
Western and southern Ireland have the best of the sunshine with good sunny spells here.
Winds NW 15-20kt (F5) nearer 25kt (F6) in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

SUNDAY
The high is desperate to build in, but the low over Scandinavia becomes complex and is preventing it from moving east. So, the northwest flow is likely to be persisting through the day.
Overall a fair amount of cloud again, but bright spells too. We are probably looking around 5 to 6/8ths for most places.
There will be some showers across Scotland and windward facing coasts and hills. A few showers may crop up inland as well, although I don't think these will be too widespread.
Southern coasts of England and Ireland will again enjoy the best of the sun.
Winds NW 10-15kt (F4) nearer 20-25kt (F5-F6) in western and northern Scotland, NW 8-12kt (F3) over central and southern Ireland.
