WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 3pm Thursday 21st October 2004
FRIDAY:
(see chart at http://www.wetteronline.de/daten/vorher/2004/10/euro/d1222.gif)
Complex area of low pressure is going to be through the UK and Ireland on Friday. One low will be to the west of Ireland, with another over northern Scotland. A strong southwest flow over most of the region. A warm front pushing northwards through Friday, to be over Northern Ireland and northern England in the afternoon.
A windy day through Friday. Plenty of cloud and rain around, especially over Ireland, western England and Wales, where some of it is going to be heavy at times. Fog will be affecting the coasts and hills. Winds may reach gale force over southwest England.
More eastern coasts of England, and the south coasts east of the Isle of Wight should be drier.
Scotland will have showers, a few heavy in the north, but drier conditions for central areas, ahead of rain arriving from the south later.
Winds SW F6 occ F7 gust F8, nearer F5 gust F6-F7 in southeast England. Light winds for Scotland, mainly F4 here.
SATURDAY:
(see chart at http://www.wetteronline.de/daten/vorher/2004/10/euro/d1223.gif)
Low pressure dominates again, and this is again going to be complex. One centre will be close to southwest Norway, with another centre to the south of Ireland. This will be moving northwards into Ireland during the night. An occluded front moving south through Scotland, with a warm front pushing northwards through the south of England.
Another wet day over southern England with mist along southern coasts and fog in the Channel. The rain and drizzle moving north through Wales and the Midlands as well as a large part of eastern England in the afternoon. A few brighter spells of northern England and Ireland, although a shower here and there. Heavier bursts of rain moving south through Scotland, with brighter skies following to the north.
Winds SW F5-F6, perhaps touching F7 in the far southeast. Lighter skies for Scotland, turning to the north at F3 later.
SUNDAY:
(see chart at http://www.wetteronline.de/daten/vorher/2004/10/euro/d1224.gif)
By Sunday low pressure is still across Scotland, with another low south of Ireland. There is a thought that today could be the best for a while in Ireland, Scotland, northern England and Wales. A waving front through the southern Midlands and southeast England, these passing northweastwards.
Heavy bursts of rain are expected through the south and southeast of England, these pushing through East Anglia and northern England later.
For much of Scotland, northwest England, Wales and Ireland, as well as southwest England the day should be brighter. There will be a scattering of heavy showers forming, but better weather in-between.
Winds mainly SW F4 occ F5 in southeast areas, NE F3-F4 in Scotland, mainly WNW-NW F3 in Ireland and Wales.
