Simon, your unique contribution is valued by the majority on what, after all, is a sailing forum; and sailing is a largely weather dependent pastime. Many thanks for all your contributions to date and I hope for many more in the future.
Rules are made to be broken when the circumstances and the benefits make the rule an unwanted and unnecessary problem.
I could not until now use Simon's forecast as I'm too far south, but if I was living in the UK I'd be anxiously awaiting his forecast each Thursday. I consider it a gift from Simon to the forum.
To try to stop that weekly post is just plain stupid, whatever the rules state. I couldn't care less, in this case, about those rules.
As for anarchy, what a thin excuse !!!
I note that with the new format, the charts reach down here in the Bay!!
Not a vitriol laden post, as thats unhelpful, rude and not neccessary, but hopefully one of considered construction....
Simon, while breaking the letter of the law, has added such huge value to the forum over the last few years, that to do anything other than to continue the wisely turned blind eye, would surely do YBW far more harm than good?
I won't join the 'i'm off if he's off' band until ybw has had a reasonable chance to review its position, but would be sorely dissapointed in your motivations and methods should his much appreciated input be stopped, and would undoubtedly review my options
I completely endorse the comments by Boatmike and many others - 'I'm Spartacus ' - in that I place considerable value, in a boating safety sense, on the forecasts which Simon Keeling regularly provides to us here - completely free of charge.
There is nothing at all wrong with us being aware that SimonJK is a professional meteorologist, and a good one. Those who may want more detail, or a tailored service, from his small company may readily go and get such, but it is no imposition on us to have him provide something so highly valued.
I have been happy to pay for specific and detailed forecasts from him on several occasions, and they figured significantly in advice sought and proffered to other forum users - and to some safety decisions made in consequence.
His free service is an asset to us here, and it should not be constrained.
