Had a great weekend pottering downwind from Chi to the Solent in the Sun on Sat and a pleasing beat back in yesterdays fresh NE'ly even if we did end up a touch overcanvassed. Not many others about if you discount Sunsail and the racers - but it made the sailing a pleasure not having to dodge others every 5 mins.
Decided to tack back up Chi but I held on too long off Copyhold buoy and gently came to a stop on the sand. My crew did not accept my argument they were responsible because they, being forward of me, went aground first so we took the easy option, started the engine, lifted the keel and backed off. I was reminded about the saying of most misjudgements happen close to home.
I hope the Westerly who reported he was bouncing on the rocks off Wotton was pulled off before he suffered too much damage - not a nice position to find yourself in a F5/6 NE.

Yes, I was out as well and had the most fun I've had on the boat for a long time.
Sailed from Hamble to Newton Creek for a lunch stop then beat my way back in a nice wind against tide situation. Creaming along at 6 knots with occassional gusts of 35 knots across the deck and big lumps of water getting in the way !

Really cleared away the cobwebs and made Monday morning a bit more tolerable.

I would have been out as well, except I discovered that I had air in my diesel lines. either a problem in the lift pump (no diaphram - a replacement pump required) or the connections in the fuel tank are leaking. Still trying to fault find.

Please have a mind..

for the poor sods shopping in Chichester on a Saturday (NEXT, Woolwrrths, M&S, Clarkes, M&S, Russell & Br......most twice) morning and visiting relatives on Sunday on driving duty.
Reports of good sailing downwind from Chichester are to cease with immediate effect.,,

until my boat is back in the water..

Re: Please have a mind..

I agree. And that goes for those in tidal creeks on enforced bricklaying and Leylandii trimming operations as well. Still, next weekend the tide is in during daylight hours so it could be good, as long as the worst of the weather on Wednesday & Thursday scoots up North out of the way in time.
