ok looking for inspiration...want to take a holiday in may, can't make up my mind where to go....will need to relax from work by that stage. I don't own a sailing boat (part share a motor boat) but i want to go sailing. I will prob go by myself. I have my day skips/ym theory etc. I have already been sailing to st lucia this year so don't mind if the holiday involves sun or doesn't. THe only thing i can think is to do my coastal practial or a share a yacht holiday somewhere..

.....so anyone have any ideas??

The Ionian is getting v. pleasant at that time of year. Jealous.

my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.

went there 2 years ago..was fun....but i found the peleponese(??) more windy and less crowded.....wanted to try something new maybe

Well, since you're talking my language... I like the Cyclades too. Only bit I haven't tried is the Saronic, which is supposed to be as scenic as the Ionian.

Turkey is beautiful, but I am a bit wary (politically) at the minute (young kids to worry about).

Croatia and it's people were fabulous, but that was 15 years ago. Still supposed to be good.

Try Scotland for something different?

The weather can be nice in May - in which case see it as a bonus - but if not there should at least be enough adventure. Could be a course or just a skippered cruise.

[Yes, I have a personal interest in one of the Scottish charter boats but here is not the place to say which.]

Have sent you a PM but also have a look at

Association of Scottish Yacht Charterers - http://www.sailscotland.co.uk

Several skippered charter companies will take bookings from individuals, sometimes with the caveat that they'd need a few others to book up before they can confirm. Obviously you should check with individual companies. ASYC have a general enquiry form that will generate an email to all their members.

Hope that helps.

Canary Sail have been recommended a couple of times on this illustrious forum, if you want the Canaries experience. You could charter with them or do your coastal skip course. Small, family run, and do a lot of their sailing around the apparently gorgeous island of La Gomera.

HWMO and I are planning an escape with them this year to do one of their courses. Bring it on...

If you haven't made up your mind, and fancy a week in the Saronic or Peloponisos, reply to this email and I'll send you details of our website. We'd offer you a single cabin in May even if we don't fill the other one.
Awaiting RYA recognition as sailing school in the Aegean - if we get it by May you could do Coastal Skipper too.
Don't want to advertise by putting up our website address but let me know if you are interested and I'll pass it on.
All the best
