Used to use Magic Seaweed but they have changed their format and difficult to see wind direction arrows.

What sites do you find best say for up to 1 week ahead?

I use Passageweather because I like the display. I've been caught out once or twice with more wind than shown, eg 15-20 instead of 10-12, but nothing serious.

Whatever you like the format off really, pretty much all the same numbers anyway for the free ones. GFS is probably as accurate as you'll get which is the most common model from the free sites.

Zygrib is worth a download as well.

Passage Weather every time. Nice easy format and doesn,t make the
mistake of trying to be too specific.
I find Windguru to be fantasy, along the lines of a tabloid horoscope.
Way too much detail to be credible.

I use the following:-

Windguru (usually overstate windspeed, but reasonably reliable)
XC Weather - Usually tends to agree with Windguru
Forecast.co.uk - Good for 14 day forecast, and seem reasonably good

and finally...

findafishingboat.com - Go to their weather page. They have links to lots of weather sites, but they also have isobar charts, which show you what's going on, and are very useful (assuming you know how to read them).

Another option is to look at actual weather reports from buoys / lightships that are upwind from you.

An easy example is to look at Sevenstones - which typically gives a 4-6 hour warning if anything is nasty in the middle of the English Channel.

The data is reported via the NOAA (US weather bureau but the data is provided by the Met Office). And the network covers the world.

One of the nice thing about forecast.co.k is that it has a smartphone app, and thee is a marine option which shows you wind arrows.

Also, download Rain Alarm. It's a wonderful little app for seeing where the rain is.

Not quite, with default settings both passage weather & wind guru are looking at *exactly* the same GFS data, just 2 different ways of looking at the same thing.

Wot about weatheronline and windy also has ECMWF + NEMS
And predictwind has it's own not good at all models (if you pay) , every link so far has been gfs.
Which is almost certainly the best overall .

These threads go to show less of what are good weather sites but more of just how bad humans are at doing any kind of objective analysis "This site is more accurate than that one" when they are the same! ;)
