We want (need) to buy a boat! So what would you buy?

Fairline Sedan 43 ?
Fairline Corniche ?

Plenty of room, plenty of zoom and held in high esteem by peeps hereabouts.

Guy Couach 1401

Which does have a nice galley with side deck entry ...

and no dark wood...

Good looking boat, but a bit to much white "plastic" for our liking though?
And it'd be a hell of a first trip bringing back to our berth in essex!
Thanks for looking though.

Out of curiosity (cos I used to live in Essex and once seriously looked into living aboard there) do you have a liveaboard friendly mooring in Essex?

yes /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Yup ... and the first 1401 is priced at £130K .... and gets lower .... Will be shorter for me to transport than from South Italy ..... great news about the GPS stuff by the way !! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

We've been living on our 435 (dinette version, TAMD71B 385s) for over two years now (latterly in the Med, we brought it down here ourselves, round the Bay) and haven't seen a boat we'd prefer.

I would second the suggestion of a Sealine 410 Statesman/F43, lot of room for living and a comfortable layout. Or what abuot the Sealine 450 Statesman, a bit older and a bit bigger, same layout as the F43, both have the option of a 3 cabin or 2 plus dinette layout which I gusee would suit you.

Lots of questions before you get to what boat.

Principaly inland Europe, coastal or a mix of both. Something heavy substantialy and boxy, a floating house, or exciting fast sports, but duck to go inthe cabin and be double jointed for a shower. Self sufficient with jenny and onboard washing machine or marina shore power and mod con hopper. Depth of canal and height of bridges where you want to go. Maximum size of berth. Anual running costs, all vary greatly.

So what do you want to do, and how much do you want to spend doing it - Then look at a boat that will fit.

So the list seems to be:
410 Statesman
450 Statesman (swinging this way at the moment)
435
43/45

Thanks to everyone for the help and guidance!! Hopefully I'll be able to report on which boat got the nod in the next couple of weeks!
Hope to see some of you on the water in the coming years
Mitch.

I agree with jcmarine, the present list are probably not the best for comfortable live aboard.
Mitch I would at least have a look at a trawler type, they can have have larger engines as on your present list and travel faster.
But they have proper galleys, large cabins and a feeling of space.
They may not have sleek looks, but are a lot more practical for your needs.

435 every time. We bought ours as a first boat 5 years ago (after much research), intending to retire onto it, bring it down to the Med and live on it. We've done exactly what we intended, had a wonderful five month trip down (Biscay route) two years ago and have been living aboard on the Costa del Sol ever since. We haven't been aboard another boat we'd prefer to have. It's a dinette version with 71Bs. Loads of space for living and partying. What more can we say.
