Our coffee maker went out this morning and it is the only model (Krups) we have found that lasts beyond 12 months. So I was charged with locating a replacement quickly. Well Currys list one on their website and they have a store near us, should be easy? Well I think I'll ring to see if it is in stock. Wrong - no telephone number for the local store, only an 0870 number to the 'you now have six f@:#ing options robot' who says press 1 for sales, I did, he doesn't answer even left it ringing 10 minutes... So I tried 3 more times, even tried options 2,3.4 etc - same result. Is it a national holiday in India?

Am I stupid or what? (don't answer that!) I am now about to drive there anyway to buy one IF they have it, because all the other makes don't last with our constant use.

I am sure you don't really need to go to India for it. Is this a sort of nice square pots with orange plastic trimmings? There was one I saw in Czechoslovakia last week.

Sooo nice to be helpful on a Friday afternoon.

If you knacker em that fast you would be better off looking for a Catering Equipment supplier. At least you should get industrial strength Coffee for a reasonable amount of time.

BTW I went to PC World (same group as Currys & Dixons)a few weeks ago to buy a Scanner. After waiting for over half an hour, during which I asked 3 Times for assistance, I left vowing to never darken their doors again.

after many a bad experience with Currys/ Dixons and Especially Argos I avoid them like the plague. Go to your local specialist, support your local shops, get better service and they will often do comparitive pricing if you know you can get it cheaper elsewhere. Even if it's more expensive, I have no problem in paying a bit more for good service.

Comet are pretty impressive...

I've had some very pleasant surprises dealing with Comet - their telesales operation actually works, and their people in-store seem helpful. Check the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.comet.co.uk>Comet website</A> to see if they list the coffee maker you want, then phone them on 08705 425 425 to check availability and delivery. The telesales people are authorised to discount to match local prices. Last time I needed a washing machine, I got a great price from Comet telesales, they delivered it on a Sunday (how good is that?) and took my old machine away for free.

We just got back from the store, they DID have one!!! It was the same price as the internet price but we saved the £6.99 delivery charge. Price wasn't the issue though, we need coffee NOW not next week and SWMBO being from the USA is used to filter coffee 24/7 (me too these days).

We looked at that option and they are about 3 times the price of the Krups one which is £39.99 but the dealer we asked said in our hard water area they didn't last any longer either! When Comet were replacing Morphy Richards and Russell Hobbs ones for us on about a 6 month cycle the guy said 'why worry about it, just keep bringing them back and we'll keep replacing them!'

We even use filtered water because of our hard water but they still scale up and after a few cleans go belly up for good.

I gave up and went to the store and luckily they had the Krups ones in stock. Then we tried to pay for it, 3 tills but NO ONE there! I was tempted to just walk out and see what happened. So we went to Customer Services and waited whilst the lady finished talking to her friend on the phone and finally took our money. When we left there was still no one on any of the tills!

And yes PC World (here it is next door to Currys) is just as bad and I have walked out of there too like you. Business must really be good, I must be too nice to my customers, perhaps I should give them the Currys/PC World treatment and I will get more business!

Rant over, it is the weekend.

PS When we got home some a#';#hole was blocking our drive. It is going to be one of those days!

It worked for me.

Surprisingly I was quite happy with the service I got from Argos on Friday.
I urgently required a wallpaper steam stripper. The one I had borrowed had expired and I was half way through a large task. (my house goes on the market on monday)

Compared prices on the internet.
Phoned their (Argos) freephone number.
Selected the appropriate code.
Got an immediate answer from a friendly non foreign voice.
One was reserved for me with a booking code in the nearest store.
Drove to the store in Inverness (6" of snow on the sides of the roads)
On entering the store (at 5.30 on a Friday night) a young chearful sales assistant immediatly took the booking code number.
I was out the shop with the goods within less than one minute from first entering.
I was back in my house using the goods within 1 1/2 hours of first switching on the PC to do a google search to find the best price and that time inclused a 52 mile return journey.

Perhaps it's the part of the country we live in.
There is a lot to be said for the stress free and helpful attitudes of the people who live in the Highlands of Scotland.

Dixons r crap try John Lewis direct or go into thier shops, the Staff know thier products & will exchange goods with-out quibble.
i stupidly went into Dixons in Ipswich for a digital phone, staff ( phone expert) chewing gum whilst talking to me (he was told by me thats its bad manners).
when i had selected a Panasonic @ £100 & couldnt find one in a box i approched the phonr expert (but not ex gum chewer) he was busy. So told him i was going.
went to phones 4 u in cambridge on the way home staff well trained, get 2 phones free if i signed up to Home call.
