..and we are planning to move up there lock stock and barrel asap!!
Perfect place to sail and keep the boat (when we get her that is!)
It may be obvious but anyone know where it is!?

correct starboard!!!!
we have just returned from The West Coast of Scotland.. Largs, Inverkip, Ardrossan, West Kilbride looking for our new home. We are re-locating to The West Coast asap in order to combine a new life with a superb location to keep our boat.....

The bay outside the marina looks perfect for practicing and learning the ropes (did I mention we are doing our competent crew THIS coming Sat!!!? - not that we are excited or anything!!!!!) and the sailing around there looks amazing....

Lancashire Lad lived and worked here in Troon since 1978.......the best place in the world to sail and play but dont tell everyone!!!! Good luck with your new boat, Largs is a great place to sail from, just be aware of that east wind when it blows off the hills east of Largs....ferocious at times!! Good luck with your house hunting....PM if you need any info.

Paul.

Recognised it immediately........ I sailed the area for 15 years and never got fed up, only reason I dont keep my boat there is the travelling, but you seem to have worked that one out.

Get in touch with some of the Clyde guys they will set you right on where to go cruising.

When you have stretched your legs and want a relaxing cruise from Largs try upper Loch Fyne. and and and.

I was up there on business last week and came home wanting to move the boat. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Cor! Never seen the marina so flat, you must have been there on one of the few "calm days"

Towards Largs Town...(3 miles over the hill)

Didn't you get a pic of the "sludge" boat dumping its load then? - must have just missed it but if you had waited around 20mins there would have been another one along.

[/ QUOTE ]Main deep water channel between the Cumbraes and the mainland - busy as hell at the weekends if it isn't blowing a hoolie which it usually is (or a blizzard which it usually is during the long miserable winter) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

well i didnt want to mention the sludge boats Cliff..but since you bring it up, they did leave the most offensive repugnant stench in the air.... and are there usually so many jet-ski's around the marina entrance???
I wonder where else we could settle then....

*goes to re-think* /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Cliff.....Knew you would be along soon to frighten any prospective newcomers away.......you forgot to mention the ferocious tides, and the great white sharks, oh and yes those mad irish folk sailing Sadler 34's..........hpe life in Korea going well!!!

Fine, Fine - so much for this retirement lark. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just can't get good help these days. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

The sailing round here is "interesting" to say the least - much better than that cess pool where you are.

Missed you last trip back - maybe catch up with you next month if you are around.

[/ QUOTE ]I would if I was you, remember the natives still eat their young in those parts not to mention all the unmarked submerged rocks, the vicious tidal streams, whirl pools etc. When you consider the local's long standing hatred of "southerners" and their habit of standing at the entrance to the harbours and marinas throwing stones at passing boats - not worth the hassle. Some of the locals think it is a great laugh to climb onboard and have a crap or throw up in the cockpit - just what one needs particularily if they have just had a wee "ruby murry" - worse than bird poo to get rid off. Then there is the the situation of all the boats that "go missing" each year, some put it down to the severe weather conditions (all them damn hills) and sudden squalls but I still think it is them Jacobites in their skirts that are behind it. Do watch out for any boat flying the Scottish Ensign, odds are they are really one of the privateers that frequent the waters - Naw, I would seriously rethink your plans. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
