There were two of HM's Patrol craft in Cherbourg last weekend - one was HMS Blazer (P279), but can't remember the second. I'm sure it was just a total coincidence that it was the Bastille Day celebrations and the crew would have had an excellent view of the fireworks display from where they were parked.

I guess there have to be some perks to persuade people that serving the RN is a good career choice.

It is when a brisk NE wind is pining you against the pontoon and no amount of clever use of springs and zillions of HP,is going to allow you to depart without clobbering two very expensive and posh motor yots parked immediately ahead and astern of you.
In this case. a big Fleming and an even bigger Absolute ?
The dull thud was their very large ball fender expiring!

Haha OG, your anecdote could happen in any marina (been there), but would you hoist a "G" to the port crosstrees before departing the pontoon, lol. As my instructor said many years ago, if conditions are not too good, just wait for a lull, there will be one along in a few minutes.

Our eldest is at Sussex Uni, they have HMS Ranger attached to their URNU section. He has recently returned from a summer deployment from Tobermory around the Western isles then up to Shetland and Orkney and down to Edinburgh, had a whale of a time.
