Wax/Polish a new boat

I always clean the hull every year and wax polish it with MER.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage polishing a new boat?

If nothing else it will help stop dirt from attaching to the hull. I always find the hull much easier to keep clean when it's just been polished/waxed.

It keeps the UV off the GRP which helps stop it yellowing, as already said it helps keep the dirt off.

On the other hand it's darned hard work.

Unless i have mispelt it its Polish sold at many fairs boat shows exhibitions and available in shops etc.

The demonstration of waxing a mini bonnet was impressive

What is MER?

MER is actually a whole range of car detailing products, but in this case they do a polish and a wax.

I polish my boat each spring, usually with a combined wax/polish. Last year, for the first time I also used a separate wax treatment. The difference was startling. Not only was the hull much shinier but it kept the shine all season and is far less yellowed. Despite having 60ft of hull to do I will repeat the treatment this year. Incidentally, the hard work was in the polishing. The wax went on quite easily.
