Watery Petrol Disposal - Where??

Pour it into containers, let it settle, carefully pour the petrol off the top.
Use the petrol in your car.
Probably best to dilute it with clean petrol, the water may have taken out some of the additives or any ethanol content.
If I wasn't busy, I'd come and scrounge it!

Personally I'd chuck it in the waste oil tank at the council tip.

Pete

The OP asked for a responsible way of disposing of it. That is not and the council will come down on you like a ton of bricks if they catch you

OK - I wasn't intending it to be an irresponsible suggestion. For the record, I've never had to dispose of such a mixture.

Is it the petrol or the water that they object to? They seem to take everything from diesel to brake fluid to engine oil so I doubt they're doing anything very high tech with the contents of the tank.

They do object strongly (I asked recently) and it's down to the petrol being explosive which puts the guy who empties it at risk in case of sparks because the petrol turns to vapour in the tank.

Put in smaller containers leave to settle then put containers in freezer.
Keith

No need for the freezer bit.
If the water froze and split the containers, that would be messy!
I've used the polythene milk bottles for this sort of thing, but I only have to deal with a little bit of water that gets into my motorbikes or whatever. The lids don't seal too well and I don't bring them indoors.

A 25-year-old business man was badly injured at the weekend when a fireball exploded as he was pouring petrol on a backyard bonfire.
He suffered burns to 40 percent of his body and his friend caught the whole ordeal on camera.
Warning: The video attached to this story contains distressing images
The backyard burn off was supposed to save Liam Swanson and his mates trip to the rubbish dump.
In the video a friend can be heard saying "this is not really smart, aye".
It wasn't smart and dousing the pile of wood with a full fuel can would prove life threatening

Petrol and bonfires not a good idea!

I thought that putting it in the waste oil at the would be a good idea too but possibly not. Talking to a bloke years ago all they do with it is stick it in a big tank and leave it to settle. Drain off the free water from the bottom then boil it up to dry it to a temperature. Then it goes for fuel oil or something, it gets burnt anyway.

If there is enough petrol in it the flash point will be a bit high and there is a risk from static/sparks.

I seperated a load of water off some petrol and put it in the crew's motorbike, don't tell her.

The longer you leave it the better split you get. Leave a large interface to make sure it's as dry as possible. You should be able to do a good enough separation just by decanting to end up with less than a pint of stuff too wet to use. With a separating funnel it would be less than 50ml.

Buy a filter, run it through the filter. Throw the water away. Use the petrol.

Keep the filter on your boat and use it when you fill up from dodgy places.

There are loads to choose from less than £20.

Or find someone who has one.
