Got rid of engine oil at Port Solent council tip today. Sure I saw a sign saying 'Petrol' above the tank. ...Or maybe it said 'No petrol'?

What can I take to the Portsmouth Recycling Centre?

The recycling centre has the facilities to dispose of:
‘bric-a-brac’ – that can be resold
bulky furniture – sofas, beds, wardrobes etc
car batteries
cardboard - can also go in your recycle bin
cement bonded asbestos (cba) – although we can only accept small amounts that have been double wrapped in plastic, due to health and safety reasons. delivery of cba must be pre-booked by phoning the site to ensure there is enough spare capacity for the material - 023 9221 9819
computers - tip: ensure that you clean your personal information from the hard disks - simply deleting information is not enough
diy waste
domestic batteries
electrical goods – all electrical goods including - washing machines, microwaves, tvs, fridges and freezers, hairdryers and toasters
engine oil
garden waste
gas bottles and canisters – (please see the link below for more information)
glass
hazardous household waste – paint, garden chemicals, drain cleaner and lubricants
light bulbs and fluorescent tubes
paper - can also go in your recycle bin
plasterboard – only in small quantities, please phone the site beforehand to check availability
scrap metal – old bikes, radiators, copper piping, corrugated metal roofs
soil and rubble – is not legally defined as household waste, however residents can take small amounts resulting from small scale DIY jobs to the site (no more than six bags or the equivalent of a small car boot full) once per month
wood
Items we are unable to accept:
ammunition, explosives or marine flares – contact your local police station
car parts with the exception of car batteries and used engine
car/motorbike/other tyres – these should be taken to the garage which supplied them or contact your local tyre retailer or garage who may take them for a small fee
clinical waste (medicines – should go back to your local chemist)
fuel - petrol, diesel and paraffin
The OP asked for a responsible way of disposing of it. That is not and the council will come down on you like a ton of bricks if they catch you
Have you got any unwanted money you want to dispose of?..but to sum up responses so far, no one knows how to dispose of unwanted petrol... interesting
