No photographs, but when I passed the Dome about an hour ago it looked as if you could walk across the Thames.

I live in Ibiza, and I have noticed how low the water has been for the last 3 or 4 days - so it is not here

It is due to global warming! The increased temperatures causes increased evaporation from the sea. The resulting increase in atmospheric humidity leads to greater snow fall at the poles. That locks up the water.
The slow reduction in sea levels is something we will see more of as global warming increases and will only stabilise once this extra snow finds its way back to the oceans via glaciers over a period of millions of years.

In the short-term before those new glaciers get moving the weight of all that extra snow causes the earth's crust to depress at the poles. This polar depression is compensated for by a bulge near the equator.
The result of all this is the ARC 2007 will become the Atlantic Race for Cyclists.

Negative surge
At lunchtime today I walked along the seawall to reassure myself that the boat was still on her mooring, and was struck by the fact that the Deben was still in a "low water springs" state two hours after low water (the boat was fine, but appeared to be giving me a sort of "Well, what did you expect?" look!)

I wondered a bit since we have 950mb just W of here which should make it deeper. The tide here hasn't gone out at all these last few days but I thing that's rain coming down the rivers.
Anyone got any idea what makes a negative surge?
