Waterproofing the canvas hood

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a product suitable to "Re-Waterproof" the boat-hood as water is dripping in through ours. Im sure I have used many years ago such a product on a tent.

Is there anything specific or better suited to the job of the boat canvas?

Fabsil is very effective, just paint it in to clean canvas,
You can also buy it in a spray can.

I'll take a look at that now.

(what quantity would you recommend for the cover on a 27ft cruiser - is a litre likely to be enough?)

edit: according to the info 1 litre does 18sqm so it should be enough. Thanks for the info. ordered.

More than that .. I would think you'd use at least 5 or 6 litres.
Its very thin and it soaks in to the canvas
Need to check quantities on the can.

If you have 'Plastic windows' try to keep the fluid off of them

Hi,

I've ordered 2.5 litre`s. You reckon thats deffo not enough?

With regards to the windows...would you recommend masking them off or is just "being careful" enough.

Edit: I've ordered 5 litres....you were absolutely right. the figures for 1 litre covering 18sqm was covering nylon. Medium canvas drops the coverage down to 5 sqm.

did my S34 with 2.5litres, great job, wash hood with warm water and canvas cleaner before you apply.

I you go into a shop that sells Barbor jackets they will sell a wax, its a clear wax warm it up by putting the whole can lid off in boiling water but keep the water away from the top leave for 5 mins and take out with cloth and then apply very thin, i f you have any thick areas use a hair dryer to thin it out.

Also from the inside if you have any areas where water goes in do the same around stitches its great, and the hairdryer ensures it penatrates, in the summer is a good time as the air is warm but this time of year just as good with dryer

Thanks for the info. I am sure it is something to recall on later. For now though I will give the Fabsil a try as I have been out and bought it already.
