Waterproof cameras

Any reason you didnt go for the remote comtrol?

Hi Bav. It wasn't available there and I'm not sure it's available anywhere instore yet as it's a new add on (as I understand it but could be totally wrong). Wanted to try all the settings first before shelling out any more anyway tbh. It has several time delay settings and if I've read it correctly, you can set it to take stills at certain intervals. Will let you know if I think the remote is necessary.

Thanks L.

With my Kodak I had planned to have it mounted on the pulpit with the ability to turn it on remotely if we saw the inevitable dolphins or something else of interest but as I said to you, the sensor is at the front of the camera so that idea won't work.

Wondered how the GoPro compared.

One feature of ONE of the GoPros that I read about is instant recording which I like the sound of. You can set it up to record the moment you switch it on. Handy when you've got ski gear or gloves on.

Enjoy.

The video editing is SUCH fun :o

One thing Bav...I can't see you having problems with any of the record/shoot buttons with hefty gloves on coz once inside the housing, the buttons protrude and are big enough even for Shrek to use so probably no need for instant switch on recording.

Hi M. The lcd comes with a selection of 'back doors' to cater for it. You just swap it with the existing one. Dead easy to remove and attach. Really impressed to be honest.

Aha, makes sense. I couldn't believe it would fit the standard case.
I'd be interested to hear also about the difference in battery life when using the lcd screen, when you will have tried it a bit.
Ta!

Is the gopro approved for any bbc hd use?

I have been thinking about adding a couple... But i am still getting to grips with the xf300.... One bit of kit at a time.

Yes the Go Pro is approved by the BBC & yes I am sure that good old Top Gear has used footage in the past from the Go Pro but the main onboard car footage is filmed on the Toshiba, Iconix & Panasonic heads with Convergent Design recorders but these equate to in excess of £10K a pop & do not suffer from the jelly effect (rolling shutter effect). The Go Pro does & is usually used to try and get a 3 second different angle shot

st599 if you do work in broadcast then you know what I am talking about & by the sounds of it we may have bumped into each other

LisiLou I am sure you will get some really nice footage with the Go Pro but as I said mount it on something very stable & free from vibrations.

L, or MM, or anyone else,

can you set the interval for the delay timer? I mean, take a frame every 3, or every 7secs Can YOU set it, or you only choose from presets?

toying with the idea of getting one, even thinking of doing a bit of arch. wideangle photography with that  but I'd definitely need the lcd for that... else I'll need cropping everything in pshop afterwards

V, a quick cut & paste from the manual:

Time Lapse Modes
You can select a wide range of time intervals for your Time Lapse Mode photos.
Choose between 0.5, 1 (Default), 2, 5, 10, 30 and 60 seconds.
