Waterlog experience or comments?

can anyone provide any information about the towed Waterlog Watermaker (www.yachtdesalinator.com)?
we have been looking at one to supplement our meagre water stowage. it's claims are remarkable - low maintenance, high output at a reasonable(ish) price.
however, other than their own publicity, we have been unable to locate any independent reviews.
does anyone have any experience of them - direct or indirectly?

There's been a great deal of talk on the forums regarding this product - most of it rather sceptical. Apparently one of the mags, can't remember which, is now carrying out a test. Do a forum search - toolbar above - on the word "Waterlog" - should keep you busy for quite a while!

We were interested last year in Waterlog due largely because they are power free and so for them looked at Southampton Boat show, no stand there but lots of rude things said about them. Contacted Waterlog direct and asked why no display, and why had other exhibitors been so disparaging? In return for specific details (who said what etc) we were promised a free 100 model. We supplied the info and heard nothing. Rang them again, were reassured that, yes, we would be given one and discussed delivery details - still nothing arrived. Sadder and wiser, decided if this was how they did business, then perhaps we were better off without them.

we are about to circumnavigate, and are about to buy a waterlog. Seem to only find good comments about them. Have been in touch, and asked why no stall at Southampton, and was told that they are fully busy selling by word of mouth. We have been offerred free inspection and delivery for this for six days, and free return after purchase if not satisfied after ?3days. Sounds ok to me.

So! Is the Waterlog a good thing or a bad thing? I e-mailed the factory and they said they sell by word of mouth. I'm still waiting to be convinced. I don't have the power capacity, or readdies, for a conventional watermaker, but an autonomous unit that needs no power would be perfect. The manual online gives instructions for use involving a recommendation that the unit is not used until well offshore with no chance of having to alter course to avoid ships etc. If I was running a scam I would ask my scamees to leave the country before finding me out. However, if it is a genuine product, I will have one. Can anyone who has one comment.

- that's the point: the same cry has already gone out many times on these forums, and the response has always been a deafening silence. Nobody appears to have one, and several have reported trying to get one and failing. Curious, to put it mildly.

Problem is you really need water at anchor, and you spend more time at anchor than moving and that is when the waterlog is useless. If you want a watermarker buy the one that makes the most amount of water per hour. You will run your engine to power it and it makes sense to only run for an hour or so. We have a Schenker and can run it on one pump making 30 litres an hour on wind and sun power (provided good wind) but usually have to run the engine, then we can make 60 litres an hour. Buy the biggest you can afford.

I tried to buy one, but it got lost in shipping (DHL) due to the company's incompetence. Just the same they want their money!

I have posted a thread on the SSCA site about this, it includes a post with more experiences from actual users.

One positive, the device does seem to work. Many others very negative since the company's response to any problem seems to hide from you.

They never respond to emails (once you have ordered) and do not answer their phone!
