Water Tank Sender Unit?

My water tank senders are a capacitive type so gives a continuous reading depending on water level thus no steps. The output on mine are 4 to 20 mA and one of the VDO water level gauges matches the 4 to 20mA.

My supplier also does fuel senders of the same type but will also indicate if it detects water in the bottom of the fuel tank.

Both types can be cut to any length and calibrated to the depth of any tank.

Osculati do a unit as you describe...
I've contacted their UK office, they have zilch in the way of information on these. Just a poor quality scan in Italian that gives no data about the unit at all. I translated it and cleaned it up then sent it back to them!

Do they come with more information in the pack?

BTW, I found the one I had seen originally: Wema. They look suspiciously similar.

I have a single page in Italian titled Guida per L'utente. Gives details Mod.S5-A 240/30 Ohm 12/24 volts Art. 27160 various lengths and Mod.S5-E 00/190 Ohm 12/24 volt Art. 27161 various lengths. Then a para on use with fuel and water, installation instructions mostly beyond my limited Italian and a connection diagram. Precautions about not connecting it with reversed polarity or directly to the battery. That's all.

I know this has been mentioned before. But the alternative to a sender is a water meter. Very easy to fit, no drilling the tank and far more accurate. Ours measures in litres so I know our tank is 780 litre capacity. The whole lot cost my £46. You buy a domestic water meter with a pulse output of one pulse per litre. These are about £40 off EBay. The pulse counters were £6 last time I bought one. Two wire connection and a battery in pulse counter that lasts for years. Simply fill your tank and set pulse counter to zero. First time you use it run tank to empty. You then know tank capacity. Next time you know exactly where you are. Easy. You also know how many litres your crew are using having a shower!

Has anyone bought a Wema or Osculati tank sender? I'm having difficulty locating a supplier.

I get mine from Aquafax, bought a couple along with gauges last week for a job this week, they also do a nice adaptor to convert existing DIN screw down tank openings to 1 1/4" BSP which the Wema and many others use, also useful for giving an 1 1/4" boss on a plastic tank provided you have a flat surface. A gauge and Stainless sender comes to about £100, also worth checking Coastal Rides as they often have new Wema senders from around £15

Fwiw , I fitted the Wema sender a couple of weeks ago to replace and old one with a moving arm. I used the circular adapter from Furneaux Riddall. The adapter has two sets of five holes as well to mount it to the existing tank. .u.e. the European and yes non Europeans supposing. The threaded hole in the middle is standard.

I have this sort, sold on E-bay in various lengths up to about 450mm, though I believe they are made up to 600mm. They come either with a BSP thread or with a five hole flange. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KUS-S3-Fu...ne-Boat-New-/111034607245?hash=item19da2da68d
The gauges are also sold on e-bay by the same sellers.

They are the ones I've been looking at, they don't do 5-hole in 350mm or 450mm :(

[More info]

My existing sender has a flange below the thread, and a nut on the outside. The tanks are plastic, and not threaded, so I don't think I can fit the type with a flange above the thread, or can I?

I had a thread running a while back re a water tank sender.

In the end I bought the Oscalati sender to fit (nearly) my tank from Force 4 Chandlers, on line, and after getting better fitting instruction from the UK agent in Lymington (wires from sender did not match fitting instructions or illustration!!) I fitted the whole lot very easily.

It works fine - but! When the tank is full, the meter deflects to full travel but seems to jam there. After removing power (I only switch it on to check status, not leaving it on all the time) and a bit of a knock/tap it returns to zero. When not full it reads and returns, but seems not to be very accurate, giving half full when in reality it seems to have a lot less in it. But we're used to it now.

Better than not having it. And it was easy to fit.
