I want to reseal the top cover on a grp. water tank 40"x16" with a 1"flange all round. I have taken the top cover off to clean the tank (yuk!) and now want to reseal the top with a potable sealant. The cover is held down by 50 ss. self tapping
screws.I used a Silkaflex compound from a gun last time (3 years ago) but this stuck too well to both surfaces and I had a real battle to get the cover off this time.
Can anyone reccomend a potable sealant that will stay flexible and not set hard?

I recommend that instead of using any sealant, you make a rubber gasket to go under the lid...secure the lid with screws. A gasket won't leak, no worry about chemical leeching into the potable water, and allows access to the inside of the tank.

I've not yet tried to separate things after trying this but: if you smear the lid with grease (vaseline) and apply the bead of sealant to the tank then it shouldn't stick the two together. Allow the sealant to cure before tightening down, as usual, and you should have a perfectly fitting, customised gasket that you can re-use next time.
