Water Tank Flush

What's the best way to flush and clean a fresh water tank after it's been standing empty over winter?

I have a plastic water tank with an inspection hatch in it. I take off the cover and wipe the insides of the tank, then flush a few gallons through it. After that I put more water in plus Milton sterilizing solution, pump it through the pipes and leave it to stand for 24hrs. Then pump it out and refill it, tastes ok after that.
