Hi guys,
I’m pushed for time, parts are arriving tomorrow and I need the engine ready for Friday evening.

So I need a good guide specific to this model - 1999 older type bf8a

another Member posted this for a bf8D

Honda BF8D-BF20D Water Pump Impeller Replacement

can anyone confirm if this is the same? I just need this change to go smoothly with no hassle...I’ve only really got Thursday evening to do it and I’ve never done one before.

My model doesn’t have an oil filter but it does have a strainer filter....which is pretty much a guaze, I’d be very much appreciative if someone had a guide for this?

I really need the official Honda repair manual can’t find a pdf specific to my model with all the chapters.

thanks Stefan

The only real difficulty you may face is separating the gearbox from outboard leg. The gearbox is connected to powerhead by a long driveshaft. It’s splined at the powerhead end and is a push fit only, but these can seize, especially if grease was omitted when last installed. Other than that it’s a straightforward job, doesn’t YouTube have a clip that details the procedure?

I can’t find anything on YouTube specific to my 1998 bf8a....except one 4 part video of a guy who’s trying to figure out what he’s doing as he goes along, with terrible camera work, that’s not for me.

There must be a good DIY out there or in a proper Honda repair manual?

Thanks for everyone’s help

move no experience with outboards but restored a few classic BMW’s in my day.

i have the Honda Workshop manual 2HP to 225 HP 1984-2004 on disc.
I have both PM 'd you and offered to send you,by email whatever section you may need ,as it seems that your model will be covered .So far no response from you.
Let me know - you can PM me.So far this is hard work .

I wouldn't service an engine for the first time with a tight time scale. If it works OK use it and worry about a service later when you have plenty of time. If the engine is a few years old and never serviced, it will take a bit of time to separate gearbox from leg as already mentioned.
