Water pressure

I live aboard a Fairline 36 turbo (currently in Ibiza) and would like to have more ooomph from the shower heads - not being v technical can anyone suggest how I might do this

Use PAR MAX4 pump and uprate the cut off presure switch you can get a 40psi switch as long as the pipework can take it, if the flow still isnt enough you can parallel 2 pumps together this will up the flow, some builders do this to large cruisers that req 2 showers to be used at the same time.

Worth descaling the shower head in Lemon juice or descaler first though!

Paul, slight thread drift. I have Jabsco pump/pressure reservoir installation on 2004 fairline. Is there an adjustment on the Jabsco unit whereby I can turn the pressure up a bit?

Adjusting the pressure won't affect the shower performance, only the point at which the pump will switch off and if it doesn't have sufficient pressure it won't ever switch off.
You may also blow your calorifier to bits!
Fitting a larger capacity pump will do the trick.

I see what you're saying PCUK but maybe that's not always true. Happy to be corrected but I reckon:

(a) If the weak link in the system is the pressure and flow rate of the domestic water pump then yes you are right, turning up the pressure switch cut off point wont help.

(b) But if the pump is easily big enough for the task and the weak link is a too-low pressure cut off swithc, then turning up the switch point will help

You can tell whether you have (a) or (b) by the pump behaviour during showers. On my boat the pressure pump runs only intermittently, not constantly, while even 2 showers are in use. That tells me I am (b), and I need to turn up the pressure at which the switch cuts off the pressurisation pump. At least I think so...

JFM there is no adjustment but you can change the switch for a higher pressure one, its in the spring setting 2 phillips head screws and 2 wires and thats it.

You wont blow the calorifier its tested by the maker to far more than its going to get from the pump.

PCUK, you will get more pressure from a new switch as long as the pumping capacity is enough to the shower head, if its a domestic head than I doubt it will be enough, if you fit 2 pumps that will sort it, Brooms fit 2 on the old 44 and 450 from memory.

Thanks. The Sq58 is a 2-pumps-in-parallel set up.
