On the cross Irish Sea trips to IOM and Scotland that I have done, the watch system was dependent on the amount of pints of "Chequered Flag" bitter or "McKewans" ale consumed by the crew the night before.
When we arose at 6am to get going, those whose didn't have jackhammers running in their heads and were not puking over the side stood the first watch.
