On the cross Irish Sea trips to IOM and Scotland that I have done, the watch system was dependent on the amount of pints of "Chequered Flag" bitter or "McKewans" ale consumed by the crew the night before.
When we arose at 6am to get going, those whose didn't have jackhammers running in their heads and were not puking over the side stood the first watch. :D :D :D

Sea Watches

Having completed some crazy watch systems in the RN....the first being 1 in 3:
Dogs, Middle, Forenoon, First, Afternoon and Morning. This gave you a long off, but the Dogs, Middle then the Forenoon while also having to "turn-to" off watch during the Dogs and the Forenoon was an absolute killer....and we had to work this routine for three months at a time.
Also 1 in 2....6 on 6 off and 12 on 12 off where the 12 about was much better allowing you to get a decent amount of sleep....this also for three months at a time.

"I am NOT! sad and grumpy....just tired....OK"

Done That!

I found watch on stop on worked best

Done that....including duty, moving berth, then loading weapons....where we received a lower rating for our assessment due to the fatigue of our team.

So!.....Sandyman....your point is!?
