Could be an opportunity to get to Watchet this weekend, although weather and crew arrival times may well scupper this plan. Anyone know what the water is like in the harbour at the moment - is it water or mud? Don't really want to sit in the mud again.

Muddy but not horrendous in the main marina area. Will be good when they get that new dredger in operation though - I reckon Watchet's mud problems will be a thing of the past.

Let's hope so, sitting on the mud has dissuaded us from going.
That and the weather, work, cost of fuel, decorating, swmbo's new car, cost of fuel ........ ......and have you seen the cost of fuel recently?
Looking forward to the spring time and a few more trips to Watchet, I do like it there, although swmbo's description of it as a one horse town, after the horse had left, was a tad unfair I thought!

Well I borrowed SWMBOs right to change my mind at the last minute. Crew turned up early so we went to Watchet. I can report that the tide is out as I write and we are not in the mud, in the same berth that was muddy last time we were down. Quite an exhilarating ride over, looking windier on the way back but it should be behind us so not too bad. We like it here, yes it is quiet, but friendly and definitely has an atmosphere.

We sailed over from Cardiff on Saturday and saw a mobo going into the harbour about 1600, was that you?
We had a good night in the Esplanade club, the band, The Jam Factory, was very good.
The wind today was less than forecast so the trip back was really pleasant in the sun.
You must have left just after us as we heard your call to the coastguard when we were a couple of miles out.

We arrived at 16:15 on Saturday so yes that was us probably. We had a good meal at the Star although not quite up to its usual standard. We had a wet run back, seas on the beam all the way. We answered the coastguard call for anyone in the vicinity of Burnham just after we left Watchet but we were a bit too far away. Kite surfer in trouble apparently.

What type of dredger are they getting? Hope it sorts it out, never been much of an issue for us, allways tell them if you need to leave early on the tide so they can put you somewhere a bit deeper.

I really like Watchet, salty atmosphere and some good pubs. Allways found the marina staff helpfull .

Understand its one of these - http://www.imsdredge.com/

Hopefully it will see the end to Watchets problem, spoils an otherwise good destination.

There is a barge in the marina with a digger chained to it and one like in the link on the hard. Hopefully that will be enough to sort the problems.
