HM Revenue & Customs were wandering around Foulkes yard this morning. Said a pleasant 'Good morning' as I passed the chap.

Now I know my VAT status is bulletproof, and I haven't yet bought any fuel in the UK.

How's your's and do you have your fuel receipts ?

He left just in front of me and headed into Hamble village somewhere. Unmarked dark blue Toyota pickup with lots of kit in the back possibly for testing fuel.

Testing for red in road vehicles I expect. Never heard of them checking VAT status, would be virtually impossible with most owners absent.

Now you mention this they were in hamble point marina as well, we did a short stay there and noticed them as we were wondering round the yard, both had official epilettes on there shirts but No visual ID on the Toyota, I did thing they were HM coastguard at first but now you mention this. Don't think I kept my last fuel receipt but have the one before somewhere. For what it's worth I don't think it's boats there testing.

As has been said already, nothing to do with boats or their fuel situation.

HMRC know that red diesel is available in marinas so want to make sure people aren't tempted to put it into road going vehicles. This will be a vehicle testing unit with no interest in boats.

Henry :)

I know its not me - finally received my laminated VAT paid in the EU receipt complete with covering letter today.

Anyone wanting a copy to forge PM me with £1,000 to my Paypal account please !

Not much point in buying Red diesel to run cars on from a marina. on the Norfolk Broads with a 60/40 split it is more expensive than the local Shell station.
