All the way from the Southend boundary to Basildon with 4 sets of average speed cams. My wife went along there this morning at 930 and said it was chaos with lots of braking.
Watch out - 50 limit now in place on the A127

oh buggar, came back tonight at 8.30 at 80ish, didn't see any changed speed limit signs.

She said that at one point heading east this evening there were a National speed limit sign and a 50 sign within 30 feet of each other.

I presume the ish is -10 as your speedo overreads by about 12% /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I checked my car speedo against hand held GPS when I first got it (GPS, that is). Within the thickness of the needle they agreed.

Do these average speed things actually work? Has anyone been 'done' by one of those?
I usually do around 75mph and then stick the car on cruise control till I have to get off the motorway. Can't say I take any notice of 'local' speed reductions (which is where they tend to stick cameras) and I have never - ever - been caught by average speed check cameras.
Have I just been 'lucky' or don't these things work?

I have been done, ahem, a few times by fixed speed cameras, but NEVER by an average speed setup. I am (very seriously) a changed driver now however can't but help think that the average speed sections are the ultimate deterrent, and wonder in reality if the tevchnology is up to it and is actually used. Anyome with any experience ?

Not really sure what the question is. Yes they work, very effectively. So effective that where they are installed permanently, such as around Nottingham, and Belfast, they have reduced speeding so much that the installations didn't pay for themselves.

Question as I understand it, was do they work ?, as in, has anybody ever had a ticket and been done for speeding, rather than do they work and slow people down.
No knowledge myself and haven't had time to search, maybe you can find an answer ?

Why were the cardboard tanks all over Kent prior to the Normandy invasion? Who says anything is installed?

Well I can think of loads of marine suppliers who have made a good living doing just that.
