Wasn’t somebody asking about crossing the Biscay inthe winter ?

Interesting chart table orientation. Nice boat, well sorted, by the looks of it.

I watched their Noggy videos, nice shots, good vistas, not the usual high drama over nothing bullshit that sailing YouTube vids offers.

The trouble is that without drama and BS you get very few views. YT doesn’t even show ours to people any more.

Agreed it’s a good channel. I watched the Norway vids and then this popped up this morning. The Fantasi 37 is a nice boat - hadn’t heard of it before seeing these videos.

Re: YouTube success, the ad payout on somewhat successful videos (c. 200k views) is now tiny, hence you see integrated sponsor segments on channels like Erik Aanderaa’s.

The handful of big sailing YouTube channels with bikinis are outliers and the reality is that 98% of these creators are either hobbyists, or need to make money in many different ways, including being paid to speak at events. Channels like this will only ever be a hobby, and that is fine. Think of it as the video equivalent of a cruising blog.

Croabh! It's so freaky thinking of someone starting an epic trip from there. Similar to when I realized the Baileys started from Moody's Yard.

Why is it freaky? It’s just a medium sized marina, hardly odd. Anyway, his “epic” trips have started from many places, Craobh was just a stop off point.

Just a friendly place that, in my world, is just a great place for a coupe to launch a sailing holiday around the West Coast, in the same way that Swanwick doesn't feel (to me) like a launch of point for world class adventure.

Clearly every adventure starts somewhere, and, almost by definition, that place is going to be a safe place, so it's shouldn't be a suprise, but it made me smile.

You have to have a racy title ….naked women cross the Biscay etc
That does seem to be the mark of some tedious sailing channels which likely only get views because of the flesh. But there are also channels which are just tedious and, thus, never attain many viewers because they are tedious.

Lots of our friends have asked why we haven't done a YT channel.
The thing is that when you are just living on your boat, even in some very nice places, it would seem pretty tedious to an outsider. Oh look, he's washing the dishes. Drama: their kid doesn't want to learn times tables. Normal boring stuff.
And anyway, having to 'generate content' would just end up spoiling the good bits.

I think that's where some channels also suffer. The person creating feels obliged to keep creating and uploading videos weekly even when there is not a lot of interesting new "creation" on offer. Others post much less frequently but when they do it is usually worth the wait (Patrick Laine's channel comes to mind) and they still keep a following because they aren't posting for the sake of posting. Interestingly, Leo, in his latest video on Tally Ho, just discussed his struggles with sailing and maintaining his boat while trying to film and edit videos to meet a schedule.
