does anyone have any good ideas for washboard storage please?

looking to create some storage rails/brackets, maybe in the cockpit locker or behind aft cabin door. Would be good to see other people's solutions...

I was going to fix them on the keel but that fell off years ago

thanks

My 37 also had two well fashioned wooden brackets in the starboard aft cabin, but not sure there would be enough space in a 30 to fit the same. Stowage problem is eased if you split the board 70/30 horizontally as the smaller lower part can be left in while sailing and the upper is easier to find a location for down below.

Current 33 solves the problem by having doors!

I routed a suitable width slot in a piece of wood the width of the perspex washboard. Sikaflexed the wood to the floor next to the loo in the heads and some bungee cord at the top to hold it in place when sailing. Being flat it takes no room.

I also made a flat chart box with a 'lid' in the end, held shut by more bungee cord. Screwed this to the 'ceiling' in the fore cabin. In nobody's way but easy to access. Holds loads of charts.

On the Hanse the wash board is a single piece of polycarbonate. It lays on top of the sliding hatch & the 2 parts slide under the hatch garage together.. If you have enough room under the garage you could just have a ply hatch & do the same. the lock is a simple pin on the sliding part that drops down in front of the hatch & a padlock hooks through a hole in it. This stops the sliding part being opened & means that the lifting part stays at 10mm th

You don’t say if washboard in 2 separate pieces but if so a couple of pieces of wood in cockpit locker so slide the boards down behind or if you prefer angled metal brackets . Ideally you would craft some opening doors as per comments above. I wonder if anyone makes retro fit wooden doors ?

This came up on the Bav forum and I measured my doors and they are the right size to fit at least some of the larger models. However they are nearly £900 and they really don't work unless the boat has the companionway inset because they stick out too far into the cockpit when open!

Not a Bavaria but on my boat there are two slots constructed of wood at the forward end of the cockpit locker. The two washboards slot into these upright. This obviously takes up a little space but it is in a recess alongside the holding tank. The business of moving the washboards and parking them can be done in one action.

Yes I had thought that There was an article on retro fit ones. If the OP has a cockpit locker then a bracket made of stainless steel inside the locker to slot them behind might be an idea.

Thanks everyone. Some good tips there. Checked this weekend and unfortunately they don't fit under sliding hatch.

They're two piece perspex. There is room behind aft cabin door so might build a wooden bracket for them. Just need to get the pattern right.

The cockpit locker isn't great as there's no real flat wall surface in there. The inside wall nearest to boat centre line comes in under the cockpit floor.

Do fancy door replacement but as Tranona mentioned I don't have a deep enough recess either.
