We were there in august. We normally avoid august but the pending start date for a new job gave me no choice.
Salcombe: heaving on the way out. I've previously never seen more than a couple of boats at anchor up near the salt stone. there were loads and my depth gauge wasn't working so I came back down and rafted up with 2 others on a buoy. On the way back we got a buoy to ourselves and there was still one free. On the one hand it was an awful day (cold and rainy) but on the other it was a saturday night in august.
Yealm: much rafting on the visitors' moorings but we found a mooring further upstream that the owner didn't come back to
Fowey. Most moorings rafted. but we got a berth at grid irons that miraculously we didn't get rafted on
Plymouth: space available at yacht haven. Sutton harbour fully booked at least a couple of weeks in advance but on the way home we got a cancellation by calling up in the morning
We spent three weeks cruising as far west as Helford. The only marina we used was in Falmouth to re-provision, otherwise it was anchoring mid stream pontoons or buoys. It surprised us that it was really no busier than normal, but then the weather wasn’t great. Also what was very noticeable was the almost complete absence of French, Dutch and Belgian boats.
