Morning
my port engine has just had a new starter motor fitted and I seem to have either a new problem or a related problem now. There are four warning lights by each starter key, oil presure, temperature, charging and a fourth one. Is the forth one the engine preheaters ???

my new problem is that the forth light on the port engine no longer goes out after the usual minute or so like it used to (and the starboard one still does)

any clues anyone ???? engines are 1993 TAMD 71Bs

Hi, I have a question on that score - I also have a light on my dash (one for each engine) which I would assume is a Pre heater - but ..... there are no pre heaters on the engines (at least according to the manual) they are KAD42's - I always wait for this lamp to go out before turning the key on start - but do I need to as there are no pre heaters? or maybe there are and the manual is wrong - in anycase they do not go out with the other checks - temp etc go out pretty quick whereas these lamps take a little longer to go out .... any ideas on this?

Ah! also whilst I think about it I have another question on warning lights - I seem to have a problem where the battery indicator lamp and warning signal go off on one engine after about 10 minutes no matter what - the volt meters are showing 14v charge on each battery, putting a DVM across the battery does indeed show a little more than 12v when not under load. yet without fail, the warning lamp comes on and the alarm sounds ....

Both Batteries are brand new this season, I wondered if it was the splitter diode but surely this would be on all threee batteris - both starter and service battery. Now the alarm etc is on the side where the service battery and engine start battery are situated - the other alarm and lamp do not come on (single battery) - but there is nothing running on the service battery and we have only started the engine on the main battery??

Its very puzzling and we cannot identify the problem - as I say all batteries are new less than a month old, the volt meters for all batteries show a charge of 14v when engines running, and off load all batteries are showing over 12v ....

Any ideas on this one at all .....

According to the Manual it is:
"Indication Lamp - Preheating on (Starter element)" which is followed by:

"Note! This lamp also works as a bulb failure warning sensor for the starter element. The lamp comes on even when the key is in the I position (operating position) if there is a fault in the starter element (break)"

Hope this helps

what manual is that? I have read the KAD42 manual again and cannot find this - also there is no sign of pre heater in the assembly diagrams for the KAD42? Am I missing something?

Thanks again..

Ah ok - so back to the question then - does anyone know why the heater light stays on when there are no pre heaters? and what about the battery warning malarky - still interested in why this should be happening if any one knows or has had a similar problem ...

Thanks in advance
