wareham trip.

Re: Dolphin

Na! duncan's drinkin' it, it'll be empty before that!! 40'ish mins a pint over a 6 hour session with the odd mountgay thrown in here and there. Can't see much froth unless it gets thrown around in a boat, but we now that doesn't happen!!/forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Yeah! I know its running rough, but your lucky its running at all!!

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

A barbie (not the doll) on an island sounds good. Could only really be Brownsea though, couldn't it? Not sure if the NT like barbies.

Could try a raid on Furzey, end up setting fire to the oil well! Now that sounds like fun.

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

There is an island that you can do it on, duncans done it before, but then with his navigation!!!

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

Well I'm not gonna freeze my gonad's off getting the boat out of the water again, I forgot my waders sunday, so its gotta be when the weather warms up!

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

What's that then. I only know of others, Green, Round and Long, and they are all private, well in theory.

If Duncan can get from Wareham to Rockley, well lubricated, his navigation must be pretty fair, even taking into account the odd 180 degree change in course.

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

Just looking at the chart, I think he said Green Island. The chart doesn't sya its private.

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

Yes it's private. Owned by a local family as the Green Island Trust. You can join the Island Club and get access, for about £1,000 per year.

We've been there a couple of times, as guests of the owners, it's a smashing place, but it is private.

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

Well, not sure which one it is then. The only other Island is Giggers Island. Well sort of mud bank with reeds growing on it! I suppose he'll let us know if thats whats decided. It would e nice to go somewhere where we actually get to use the boats to get there. I'm sure that if people haven't got a boat in the area then space can be found with those that have.

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

I think there is Stone Island as well, which sort of appears at low water. Maybe we could have a cricket match on the Bramble Bank???

Anyway, we're making this thread very large, off to bed now, goodnight all.

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

I still think that a quickish trip to IOW would be good. Do it when the weather warms up and sleep on the boats. Make a overnighter of it so theres not so much rushing about and it'll give people time to get there from other areas if they wish. You never know haydn might come!

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

Long Island
Round Island is private, and seemingly connected to Long Island but not on the chart. It is a busy spot on a nice weekend evening with a sheltered sandy beach about 70yds long. Youngsters often overnight in the glade amongst the trees up the little cliff.
Navigation on a par with Wareham; and in my experience more difficult to get out than in .......don't really know why ;o)
Best on neaps
Enough shelter to raft and barbie on the boats if need be but if planning as a nice early season trip (May?) then being able to light a good fire on the beach (or bigger barbie) can help!
Maybe just best for a nice long evening in early July.

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

Newtown creek ( I.O.W ) allows beach barbies, fairly sheltered plenty of anchorages, or you can go further up river if overnighting, and it's the right end of the island for you Poole based boyo's. Any good?

Re: Wareham Gang BURGEE

I think keep it simple like last weekend. I think we found everyones level, loads of beer and grub, espesially if kiddies are involved. Although they seemed to look after themselves. IOW sounds a good weekend thing though.
