On my radar arch, the nav lights are connected in with a three pin, brass screw down type connector, (the usual holts blister pack in any chandlers). My opinion is they are junk, as mine never work, and its always those connectors....

Any recommendations for a similar screw on splash proof bulkhead type connector. (No scotch blocks please:) that are slightly more reliable and robust.

This is just taking the cable from the light unit into the arch? Why does it need to be a connector - why not just a gland to take the cable inside?

If it does need to be removable, Bulgin Buccaneers have a good reputation.

Whatever plug you use, a bit of Contralube on the contacts wouldn't go amiss.

Thanks Pete,
It only needs to be a connector as there was/is one there from new, saves me pulling ten yards of cable through as well.

I used electrolube on the old ones.... Just junk contacts really.

Bulgin.... Found em... Many thanks :)

The Bulgin are IP68. However, I recently had to use a 4 pin Holt style for my Arch lights, because the Bulgin was too long where the cable fed up too close to the radar arch support. I loaded both ends with Sikaflex 291, then when this had gone off, a thorough wrap with SA tape on the cable going up to the arch, with plenty of silicone grease both sides of the rubber seal washer between the plug and socket.

I expect it will be good for a couple of years.

On my saily boats I used to lead the mast electrics through a deck gland with an internal connector strip inside a nice dry terminal box.

My library is slowly growing, become a bit of a wet weather / when I can't go boating hobby now.

Driplugs seem pretty reliable if you must use plugs. Much better than the metal screw down type.

A smear of silicone grease on the O ring makes them easier to plug in or unplug.

Pass the cable through a deck glad and join the wires with pre insulated shrink wrap wrap in line butt joints - waterproof and permanent. A connector there is for builder convenience only. If you want to remove the arch ever, just cut the wires and re join when the task is complete.
