Wallypower 118

There's loadsa deck space. The whole foredeck is covered by an awning and is cushioned into a massive shagpad, and the side doofers fold down to make little balconies, and the aft deck is pretty big though no handrails across the transom

It looks hideous and will probably be out of fashion to the kind of people that do buy those sort of things fairly soon, imagine trying to sell that on!

Those Wallypower 118 pics

OK here are the pics from monaco 3 weeks ago. Sorry rubbish resolution, taken on phone. Note massive fordeck lounging sofas and stuff, tcm!

Re: Those Wallypower 118 pics

Completely barking, over priced and impractical - so, a typical power boat!

Whatever you think of the lines and interior styling, it's mad projects like this that push forward the development of boats, in the same way that wacky concept cars lead to the mass production models of tomorrow.

I can't bring myself to love the Wallypower, but I admire the grand insanity of the idea, and salute the obsession and commitment that led to her being built.

Re: the\"Wally\" brand

yep, i hear he asked his kids what to call it, and they said "wally".

Actually, some of the "where's wally" puzzles are quite hard. Oh yes they are! Shurrup!

ace foredeck sofas

Hey tcm whatdya think of the deck lounging? The first pic above off my camera phone is the blimmin foredeck. Tis quite fab, no?. I reckon with a decent supply of fags and booze one could lounge around there setting the world to rights and guessing women's ages till, ooer I dunno, about 5am praps?

Re: ace foredeck sofas

ahem..

Methinks TCM could do that before 2300 hrs AND continue till 5 am on a pea-green boat of 25 foot not 118 ....

Re: ace foredeck sofas

ahemf. I don't remember any of this at all!

Anyway, howdya gettem to muck about wiv the flippin sofas? (he says, quickly changing the subject...)

Re: ace foredeck sofas

Ahem indeed. If I remember correctly it was 5am, then up at 8.30am. I've felt better at that time.

Of course, someone did no serious drinking at all and quit just after the aperitifs /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Yeah, cracking sofas though.

Re: the\"Wally\" brand

Hmmm stand corrected. Still think a strange name, but if it works.

Intrigued by your photos further up, interesting shot of gas turbine. Always liked the idea of gas turbines, only one basic moving part, high power/weight, shame not more thermally efficient.

Re: the\"Wally\" brand

Yes massive power and size to weight. Unfortunately much of that benefit is lost by needing a massive gbox - on the Wally it steps down 16000 rpm to about 1500 rpm

Gas turbines are incredibly thermally efficient in the right conditions, 45000 feet on a jet fighter. Thermal efficiency can get to the 95% mark which is about as good as mankind has ever achieved. Even on a regular Boeing commercial jet the mpg per person is much better than a nissan micra with 1 passenger. But at ground level in a "slow" wally 118 they wont get near that - I dunno what the thermal efficiency actually is but I still guess it beats a 4 stroke high rev (2000rpm) diesel, or do you know different?

Jeez !!

What is this a Boating forum or a meeting of the KKK ? I do some woek for a day and all kinds of inference and innuendo !

Noone hereabouts would believe that I would leave the scene of a Rosay Slaughter-fest early , so not sure who you can be referring to ! This being borne out that someone delivered Croissants et al BEFORE 0830 ...

Must admit still surprised no-one has picked up on the MoBo nearly running out of fuel. One of the best bitz of the weekend ! ( Apart from nearly running down a buoy-EPIRB of course) ..

Glad to know we failed to put you off the SoF. Being back 'here in UK' today , I know where I would prefer to be. Regards to Mrs M and Mini-Magna.

Re: the"Wally" brand

Be surprised if a jet fighter, even under optimum conditions, could reach 95% TE. Must be more than 5% loss in driving peripherals such as pumps etc. A lot of the chemical energy in the fuel is used to heat nitrogen in the air to high temp and is wasted, with other combustion products, as hot exhaust gas, not all contributes to thrust.

You're right about passenger jet, a quick tap of the calculator shows about 40 passenger mpg, not bad.

From what I've read, turbines can't hope to match the diesel engine for traction use, a good high speed diesel can reach 30% TE, maybe better. An effient coal fired power station can reach 40%.

Big cross head slow revving marine 2 stroke diesels can exceed 50%, but these beasts stand about 10metres high, have cyl diameters of over 1 metre and produce about 5,000hp per cylinder, at less than 100 rpm. Not much good for the average cruiser, even the Wally!
