Stunning. So was the Zonda, and nice to see the 575 do so well against the Vanquish.

Must be just me that thought the interior looked cheap and basic, and that the outside looked like it was drawn with a set square then.

Oh, and I liked the air scoops on the side cleverly designed to catch all the spray!

Ho hum...

Saw it too. Ari, if you walk around the interior the Wally certainly doesn't feel "cheap and basic". There are complex baffles in the air intakes to catch spray and drain it. Incidentally, it is rumoured thay are about to build #1 of a Wallypower 68

The cars weren't bad either. Clarkson just doesn't like hydraulically operated gearboxes. Down to personal taste, I luv em. The other thing is he could do with chivvying the manufacturers along to make these cars available. Anyone actually tried to buy a DB9? You need to be very patient.....

I still thort it looked plain ugly. Ok it may be at the cutting edge of boat technology but if I had 14mil it wouldn't be on my shopping list.

Any idea how many they've sold?

I guess it probably "feels" a lot better than it looks, but on the program it didn't look impressive.

And the outside (which no doubt is impressive in real life) might be different, but it's certainly not stylish.

Looked like it was designed by the bloke that did the Aston Martin Lagonda!

Yeah it just feels a lot more impressive in the flesh. I gotta admit, I spent 30mins in the engine room and that made me fall in love with it. The top gear statement about aerodynamics and ferrari wind tunnel or whatever was just BBC journo bolx, they dont know anything. It "only" does 60knots, aerodynamics isn't a big deal

Re: me too please!

Ahh that explains it. I think they treat existing cusotmers well. I have never owned one, so when I rang about DB9 (I was serious) they didn't know me from Adam and treated me like poo. They said 2007 delivery or summink, and said would I like a DB7 or summink mean time to build a relationship with them. When I said no I want a car not a shag nor a DB7 they cold shouldered me a bit. i spose they got lots of people calling about the DB9 in the summer when it hit the press and perhaps lots weren't serious, I dunno?

Re: me too please!

Extra couple of grand over list will get you one out of the Sunday Times, have to admit they can be worse than your average Sunseeker salesman at the boat show, and that takes some beating!!!

Re: me too please!

Could have got one inside 12 months in Cheshire. Went to the launch and was dissapointed. Plastic dash and rather dull, imho of course.

For me fast cars are about sex and andrenaline /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

Re: me too please!

You've got to be fair to AM - they spent years building cars on a zero budget bought by the same people over and over, now they've got all the money in the world and actual, non-Aston fans wanting to buy their cars!

Must be quite a change of scene for them!

Re: me too please!

ah well, the thing is, see, if you want to buy an aston you obviously are a bit mad, hence it's fine to treat the customer as such. Cos astons cost loads and fall to bits. These days, with added fordiness, praps they mite not fall to bits so much, but they don't go near a racetrack where the falling to bits wd start all over again. However, I agree that they do have pedigree - David Brown = DB of tractor fame, ahem - why the heck do they carry on with this crap?

Clarkson is supposedly a fan altho spends his money on german not british tin. It's true that they can beat the train to monte carlo. However, anyone can beat the train to monte carlo unless they set off at exactly the same time as the correct eurostar for 1 hr crossover to non-stop tgv in paris and arive monaco bout 9 hours after departure waterloo. But we could give it a go if you fancy?

Re: me too please!

The Fordy bits in Astons are sturdier than the Fiaty bits in Ferraris! Aston are going racing again this year at Le Mans with the DBR9, up against Ferrari though I doubt there will be any team secrets as both teams are run by Prodrive. Enzo must be spinning in his grave! If race track success is a good indicator of reliability MG-Rover must be brilliant - they've won more rounds of the American le Mans series than any other team at 14 this year! /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

What German motors does Clarkson buy then? I know he uses a Range Rover for everyday transport and has that hideous Ford GT40 pastiche on order, but I thought his other motor had an equine badge? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: me too please!

The other thing I didn't quite follow about the Vanquish v 575 thing last night. They accepted that the 'rari was more responsive, lighter, handled better and was faster, oh, and that the Vanquish's gearbox (which is fairly important in a sports car) was crap. However, they preferred the Vanquish because ... erm, it wasn't as good as the 'rari. Hmmm.
