We sailed past yesterday afternoon, and the crane was just extracting the last pile from the Crossrail pier. Later, when we were anchored in the Roach, we saw the tug and crane heading out to sea along the Crouch. Then when we sailed past this morning, it was hard to work out where that big quay and all the mechanisms they used to spread the soil had been. They seem to have done a really good job of dismantling it!

The two barges that made up the jetty are now moored in Ramsgate harbour awaiting possible purchase by Thanet District Council. This is creating an intense and bitter argument as no business plan or financial recuperation plan has been submitted to councillers. The plan is to spend £1.8 million on something nobody wants or asked for as an "emergency"

Why do TDC / Ramsgate Harbour want them?

Gavin Waites (Operations Director!!) wants one to replace the existing conveyer berth for Brett’s aggregate plant. Bretts have not asked for a replacement.
The second, being a buy one get one free, is destined to be piled alongside the historic East Pier of the harbour for so called wind farm berths.
Information suggests they were to be scrapped until TDC were seen coming. Full story plus more TDC shenanigans on Ramsgate Action Group page.
