Just to let you know that Maplin are selling a pair of Walkie Talkies complete with belt clip, rechargable batteries, and a charger that does both units at the same time for only £20. Range stated as up to 5km. Have not tested at this range, but can vouch that they work at 1/2 mile.

I've got some, altho I paid a bit more than 20 quid, so how sick do I feel! I use them while out shooting with a mate of mine.....so we know where we both are. They work in open country over about 2 miles. If it gets woody with lots of trees etc then the range gets cut a bit. Ideal for keeping in touch and for 20 quid you really can't go wrong.

What's the audio quality like, Terry? We bought some cheapo Binatone ones, and they're awful compared to the Motorola ones (one of which I dropped off the pontoon at Mercury while taking your lines, as it happens...)

Graham,
They are a bit tinny but for 20 quid they are acceptable in my book.
Did I mention that they also come with a belt clip/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

We've got a pair of those things - had them for ages, but when we need them, e.g. trying to find each other in shopping malls, they are in the car or on the boat!!
