Walker log

Base plates in fact. The Walker log comes or rather came, with a pair of plates one for fitting to port and one to starboard.

It would not actually be all that difficult to make some plates that would do the job. perhaps not as elegant as the originals but I see no reason why some home made ones should not be perfectly functional. They could be simple flat plates, with the curved slots for the mounting arm, mounted on spacers to allow the space for the heads of the lugs on the mounting arm underneath.

This is for info a complete kit. (One of the mounting plates has been fixed to a wooden block that can be clamped to the rail)

Another possibility is to buy a "sling pattern" version rather than the "outrigger pattern" - I don't know if they were made for the Knotmaster but they certainly exist as an option with the Excelsior IV.

Many older boats still have the base plate although they no longer use a Walker log - it may be worth offering an owner of such a boat £ in exchange for a baseplate.

Yessir, am definitely in the market for a Port plate. Anyone out there got one?

Some Knotmasters (like the one I have) came both with a sling or taffrail fitting as well as an outrigger. One of my mounting plates is missing not sure which as I have only ever slung it from the pushpit. It was one of the first things I bought when I took over the boat, thinking was that a 60 year old boat absolutely must have a Walkers log.

Whilst on the subject of Walker logs, I have acquired one complete with a monting plate but no handbook, does any one have an electronic version they could share?

Noticed a few old mails regarding Walker's "Excelsior" Logs on your site. I have acquired a brass one, in original box, headed up "Walker's Patent "Excelsior" Yacht Log" , Dial has no inscription so can not identify model. Only number I can find is 1303 stamped on back of Dial casing. Can anyone give me an ideal of age please ?

The best place to source Walkers Log baseplates is this Forum--- I have a pair of the type shown in the VicS photo.
They are yours FOC when you send me a PM to confirm you have obtained a log less the baseplates and you put a fiver in the RNLI tin when it comes around again (and I shall check this next time they rescue me) ! Alternatively I`d do a straight swop for a manufactures plate marked "HARRY KING & SONS PIN MILL " or some such. Mine is missing and I would very much like to replace it. Perhaps some one in the Forum has a spare in the bottom of their Dittybag or has seen one for sale you never know your luck.
Vitalba.

If I'd known it was that easy I would have stuck my oar in long ago. Does anyone else out there have a spare plate? £5 willingly donated to RNLI. I believe that Walker did make one model with an electrical speed readout as well as the log, does anyone know of one of those for sale? I'm very fed up with my paddle wheel type not working or very inaccurate when it does decide it will go round today but slowly, or quickly, or not.

I have a spare pair of plates - they won't be available until the end of October, but I would willing part with them in return for a donation to the RNLI. If I get more than 1 enquiry then I will split the pair, so please let me know which one you want.

They are a bit tatty. I bought an unused Walker Log on ebay earlier this year, and this has 2 shiny new plates, so I will replace the existing ones when I start the winter re-fit - hence the delay.

I have the knotmaster mark 3 A , and am looking for the mounting shoes and the outrigger bar to attach the lot together, at present the whole unit is tied off with a short lanyard to the pushpit. highly unsatisfactory, any one know where I can source the missing bits, I could make them if I had detailed drawings.
