Christmas and New year in the Canaries is excellent....it's one long festival...then leave early January to get to Trinidad for the next party! after a stop in Barbados of course to aclimatise to the rum.
Hard work that. Dangerous as well. Especially as good Mount Gay rum costs approx 14 quid a gallon here. That includes a big 1 gallon glass bottle. The half gallon plastic bottles are more practical though, and make ideal water bottles.
Make sure you visit Barbados first, and give Morning Love and me a shout, and we can take you on a rum shop crawl...... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
It may have been suggested already but Puerto Calero on Lanzarote is excellent. Good security and yard plus only 10 min in a taxi to the Airport. Have stayed there twice in Sept/Oct but have prebooked. Palmas has been mentioned but it it pretty dirty and rats were a problem for those on the ARC 2006 and as also said you will be moved on to make way for the ARC circus when it arrives.
Yes, I'd rate Gomera too, a very nice spot. For many years there was plenty of space, but last time I visited (Dec 2005) it was stuffed to bursting - so get your booking in. If leaving your boat there, at all costs get a berth not too close to the entrance as heavy swells come in during S or SW storms - that's happened both the last two times I was there.
Re: Waiting in the Canaries - La Gomera still open?!
Hi there - question for Webcraft really - I booked a slot at La Gomera and although they promised an email to confirm, I've heard nothing. Now their website has been off-air for over a week.
Re: Waiting in the Canaries - La Gomera still open?!
We left there on Monday - everything normal, plenty of space for visitors. Suggest you give them a ring and ask to speak to Jose - but there won't be a problem, don't think they use hte website / email a lot.
