Waiting for a weather window... Biscay

Hey guys,

Just an update. Had a pretty lumpy crossing to Roscanvel (Brest) where we hung out an anchor for a week, before crossing to La Coruna Wed-Sat last week. Biscay was up to it's normal tricks - light winds and swell made for a loooong three days, but we're here in the sunshine now and looking forward to heading further south.

Thanks again for all your help with the weather routing!

Marina, cheap by UK standards.

Cheaper still at anchor! Good holding over by the fish farm platform, frequently used as a sailboard teaching base. dinghy ashore to slip in main shopping area and short walk to supermarket . Time trip ashore arrival/departure to have water at the slip for the dinghy.

The outer marina is a long walk to town shops, albeit scenic, Anchored or on the buoys and using the dinghy direct to town is best and the saving buys a few more bottles of wine . Even from the inner newer marina the supermarket walk is not easy, passing through the throngs of window shopping tourists or hopping over quayside obstructions in/out of parked cars.

That means getting the flubber out, then putting it away again when you leave. Too much faff for a couple of nights when the next stop is beyond sensible dinghy towing distance away.

Besides which, CA members get a discount in the marina!
Once we arrived in Camaret direct from UK our then dinghy was inflated and carried invertred on the foredeck, fully inflateduntil home again, in which place, raised slightly tied to rolled genoa sheets, it doubled as a weathershield for the forehatch allowing it to be left open for ventilation even in rain.. Our outvboard was on a pushpit bracket and with a tackle from the goalposts we could deploy it rapidly whenever required. We would do our first major re-provision in Camaret then would be anchoring out wherever until a next major food run ashore, probably in Port la Crouesty or La Trinite. We usually managed our regular 5-6week cruise of S Brittany on very little marina fee costs. What a wonderful cruising ground!
