Hi, I've just driven 100miles up the A90 with the 12volt plug for my WAECO CF80 freezer dangling out of the near side rear door!

Well, the 12 volt plug was there when I started, not surprisingly, it wasn't there when I arrived home.

Yes, a silly thing to do.

I've just looked online and a new 12 volt cable is coming is at between £32 and £36, ($26 in the USA) which seems very expensive.

Can anyone identify the plug, and better still where I may be able to but one?

The plug is rectangular in shape, it has 2 spade type connectors and an indent on one of the long sides which stops you plugging it in the wrong way.

Sorry, missed your mention of spade type connectors. Can't you just use crimp-on spade terminals?

Yes, I could and that's a backstop position (or I could shell shell out 30 odd ponds and buy a new one). But it's a bit of faff, I use the freezer to transport frozen food on the 4 1/2 hr journey from home to the freezer on the boat, so it goes in and out of the car at regular intervals. It's also last to go in, I leave it on mains power for as long as I can and by the time I'm loading the freezer the car is already full of stuff.

I'll try Maplins, CPC and RS later but it's not always easy to find things when you're unsure what they are called.

I just hoped someone on the forum would recognise it and save me heap of time.

I reckon its going to be such a task to find a plug... and then it will be re-wireable and may not fit properly or be so bulky as to be inconvenient compared with the original moulded plug... that the most sensible option is to fork out the £36 .

Yes, that will do, I'll get one of my daughters, who lives in Sidney to buy it and post it to Scotland.

Thanks pvb for all your help!

just buy the uk version, for £36, by the time your daughter has paid the postage and maybe tax import if applicable, you will have a plug which isn't original equipment and might cost you more.

its not cheap to send parcels to/from oz,

that's if it gets thru customs https://www.gov.uk/ce-marking#products-that-need-ce-marking

The £21 includes post from Australia. I've bought quite a few things from Australia on eBay, they turn up quickly by post and I've never had to pay duty/VAT.

An update

For all sorts of complicated reason I finished up spend the month of February in Australia.

Whilst I was there I bought a new 12volt lead for the Waeco 80CF for 29.99 Dollars Australian, which is about £15.14.

Put another way this is less than 1/2 the price of a of the same item in the UK.

I know the forum can't really answer this question, but why are we overcharge in this way in the UK?

The BFC store in Taren Point (close to Sydney) seems to be large and successful, and open until 9 o'clock on Thursdays.

Swings and roundabouts - you should see the price of chandlery items in France compared to internet prices in the UK. French are not yet into intenet selling in a big way. Couple of years ago I replaced my Jabsco toilet - £99 for a complete unit. Local chandlers wanted as much just for a pump unit. As as for antifoul prices, they are just through the roof.

Suffice to say I take as much as possible out with me.

Probably all down to volumes of sales. Not many Waeco freezers in use in UK, therefore not much demand for replacement bits, therefore small volumes ordered, therefore unable to access lower bulk prices. I've generally found EU prices are above UK prices although that's changed recently as the Euro has dropped relative to Sterling.
