can anyone give me some advice please i have a wabasto heater unit fitted to my boat when operational it works fine nice hot cabins and plenty of hot water the problem is you need ear defenders on when it is running because there is a very high pitched whistle all the time it is running can not be left on at night you would never get to sleep neither would adjacent boaters in marina some one recomended silencer on air intake got one and fitted but still the same as anyone expierianced simlar all suggestions welcome

I haven't had that problem, but mine does have quite a loud 'ticking' noise when it's running which the dealer assures me is quite normal. Is this the case with yours?

Let's be clear about what heater this is, from your description (you say it gives plenty of hot water) you have Webasto water boiler (though most Nimbus had Volvo Ardic systems) coupled up to your calorifier and a matrix to provide warm air. If so then the problem is not with your Webasto but the Matrix fan.

its sounds like the fan bearings gone, you could remove the exhaust pipe off bottom of heater, start the fan for cold air and see if you are getting some air generated noise due to the pipe run.MAKE sure you dont get heat on or you would have a problem!!!! more likely fan bearings.

This is normal only if the fuel pump has been poorly installed without the correct insulation blocks and is transmitting noise through your hull.

Another reason for this is, in order to conform with BSS (or at least what some BSS examiners insist on); copper tube is used with compression fittings throughout which again transmits the noise. The correct Webasto pump installation when using copper tube is to use a housing which contains the pump and rubber joints & filter to isolate the noise and comply with fire resistance requirements, this is now supplied with Webasto marine kits but you can easily make your own from an aluminium project box.
