In the local the other night I found myself in the company of several Royal Naval Officers & Ratings.... They kept referring to yachtsmen as WAFIs....? I did'nt like to ask... Can anyone help?

After a bit of google I found out that "the original meaning of llan in Welsh is "an enclosed piece of land", but it later evolved to mean the parish surrounding a church." I can see how that would be inconvenient on a small boat!
