VP2002 crank direction

Hi ,

Would be handy to know the direction the crank rotates viewed from front of engine .

Many thanks

Rob

I was going to be smart and say RTFM but it is not in the owners manual.

It isi n the workshop manual though

Clockwise

An interesting question.

I'm sure that every engine I have ever worked on has run clockwise when viewing the crankshaft pulley. Are there any that run anticlockwise? It sounds counter-intuitive to me but perhaps that's just because I haven't seen one. :)

Richard

I just did a quick search and apparently some older Honda engines did run anticlockwise although even they stopped that silliness in 2000. ;)

I watched the prop rotate the shaft undersail last week and it was clockwise on my VP2002. Pity we can't harvest some energy when it is doing that.

While hearing the noise of the prop spinning the shaft when you get to 4.8 knots SOG is nice I feel it will make me go mad on a months voyage. Tips for reducing the noise are welcome. Putting the engine into gear is not acceptable as:

a) we lose half a knot; and

b) the manual says don't.

A folding or feathering prop is your only solution, I'm afraid. :ambivalence:
