Hi folks,
I had a leaky sea water pump on my port engine (TAMD40a) so I stripped it down and rebuilt it. I went to reassemble it last night and had problems getting the strainer seals to fit. It seems they were crimped/damaged previously so are difficult to keep in place. I have ordered some new seals and they should arrive tomorrow.
Is there a trick for getting them back on? Should I use grease or Vaseline to hold them in place and get them to slide on?

The black plastic strainer bowl sits onto the sea water pump output pipe and the pipe feeding the engine. There are two holes in the bottom of the strainer that the push through with two black rubber seals. There is a recess in the two holes to take the seals and the seals are a square profile rather than the round profile of an O ring.
